NFL BCS Power Rankings-Week 9
The BCS system used in college football determines the NCAA National Championship game. The BCS rankings are ⅓ computer stats and ⅔ human rankings (Harris and USA Today). These NFL Power Rankings mirror after BCS Rankings.
The computer stats used in these power rankings are: strength of schedule, strength of victory, total offense, total defense, points per game for, points per game against and turnover margin. Each team is ranked in each stat. The team ranked 1st in any given stat gets 32 points, 2nd gets 31 points, 3rd gets 30 points, etc. The average ranking of all computer stats make up ⅓ of the total power ranking.
The 5 human rankings are from: Walter Football, Bleacher Report, USA Today, Fox Sports and the Mothership (ESPN). he team ranked 1st in any given human ranking gets 32 points, 2nd gets 31 points, 3rd gets 30 points, etc. The average human rankings makes up ⅔ of the total power ranking.
Power Rankings through week 8 of play:
Biggest Rise: Philadelphia Eagles (up 7 spots)
Biggest Fall: New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys (down 4 spots)
The Home Team!
23. Minnesota Vikings (.3473)

Minnesota got its 2nd win of season vs Carolina last week. It is Ponder’s first victory of his career, a career that has some serious potential. Ponder is showing he has some poise and a shot to be a good NFL QB. Ponder completed just under 65% of his passes and had over a 102 QB rating on Sunday. Jared Allen is on pace to have 25 sacks which would be an NFL record. If Ponder can continue to improve the Vikings will win more games and move up the Power Rankings. Minnesota plays at Green Bay on Monday Night Football in 2 weeks.
The Top 5:
1. San Francisco 49ers (.8836)

A pretty big shock to be ranked #1 when you don’t even have the best record in the NFL. If I decided that I could change any one spot with another team, it would be here. Green Bay is 7-0 and has won every game pretty easily, but the Niners are ranked above them. Here’s why:

TOTO= total offense
PPG= points per game
TOTD= total defense
PPGA= points per game agaisnt
TOM= Turnover Margin
San Francisco is tied with Detroit for the best computer ranking. They have a great strength of victory, they score the 6th most points, give up the least, and have a great turn over margin. The strength of schedule will get weaker with 5 divison games left in a very weak NFC West and if the Niners keep winning their strength of victory will decline. San Francisco is 6-1 with a legitimate shot at home field advantage in the NFC.
2. Green Bay Packers (.8765)
Although the Packers aren’t on top of the power rankings they hold a 7-0 record. The problem is they haven’t really played anyone. That will change. Besides Minnesota, 8 of the last 9 nine are vs teams over .500. If know one can figure out this offense and Aaron Rodgers, these power rankings will have “Pack on Top” once again.
3. New England Patriots (.8095)
Even though the Pats lost to Pittsburgh they are still ranked above them this week. New England still has a great offense and some guy named Tom Brady. The poor defense is what hurts this team in the computer rankings. The Pats will be one of the favorites to win the AFC all year. A loss at Pittsburgh is no big deal for Beantown.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers (.8086)

With a huge win vs the Patriots on Sunday the Steelers find themselves in the top 5. They are .009 behind the team they just beat for 3rd. The Steelers have a bad turnover margin and have played a weak schedule. A win this week for vs rival Baltimore on Sunday Night should put them into the Top 3.
5. Baltimore Ravens (.7973)
I am sure the Ravens would love for this cover to come true this Sunday. Baltimore still has the best defense in the NFL and had Ray Rice lead them to a come from behind win vs Arizona. The game of the week is easily the Ravens vs. Steelers. The winner will be in great shape to win the division.
L0L-16 Watch/Suck for Luck Sweepstakes
The Rams won a game and now we are between the Colts and Dolphins!!
32. Indianapolis Colts (.0908)

The Colts rank dead last once again in the Power Rankings with a pitiful .0908 score. The rank in last in all human rankings and are by far the worst in computer rankings. This team is .0506 behind the Dolphins and are my new favorite to get the #1 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.
31. Miami Dolphins (.1414)
Why is the picture of Albert Pujols? Because, if the Dolphins keep giving up leads and losing they will in short time gotten the biggest name NBA player in LeBron James, the most talked about prospect in the NFL in Andrew Luck and have an outside chance of signing the biggest free agent since A-Rod opted out of a contract. Miami fans would be thrilled if Pujols took his talents to South Beach. I have a feeling they wouldn’t mind a little Luck either. Miami is a bad team. They don’t really have any games they can win by mistake either. It might come down to a coin flip between them and Indy for Andrew Luck.
